Is someone else out there having issues with a Scotsman Prodigy ice machine? We have had our Prodigy unit for a little over Two years now, and we have experienced a number of problems. I am uncertain if it's simply because I'm new at owning an ice machine, however I figure there must be people out there that are finding the same issues that I'm getting. On the 1st year, everything going great. We were able to keep the ice bin pretty much filled up at all the times we needed ice. But after that, we would go to get ice and we would see that the ice bin wouldn't be getting any fuller. I started to be concerned. I powered down the ice machine and restarted it because I assumed that could fix the problem. I have had equipment and computers that start acting up, and I just reboot them and this will sometimes fix the problem. After the restart, the machine still had not been generating any ice. We have a Two O'clock busy period that comes in the afternoons, and we need to keep the ice filled for then. I really was worried at this time. I called the the Scotsman dealer to ask them to come over and repair it. They dispatched a service technician that same evening. We didn't have a sufficient amount of ice for everyone before they got there, so we were forced to send someone out to get bagged ice across town. Right after the service call, the service technician told me that he performed a basic cleaning on the machine and recommended that I place a filter for the machine. I was glad to see that the machine had been under warrantee and we did not need to pay for the service call. After about another Half a year, the machine stopped working yet again. I had been thinking "great, so what now?" I called the service company back again and scheduled an appointment. I bought a few large bags of ice and put all of them in the walk-in freezer given it would take the service guys a couple of days to get to us on the list. The service tech completed fixed the ice machine and gave me a bill. I asked him why the invoice was given to me; I thought the machine was under warranty. He told me that the warrantee on this unit had was over last month and that I have to take care of the service invoice. I got angry about having to pay, however at least our machine had been working again. The service tech again proposed that I buy a water filter for the machine. He had explained that out of all the Scotsman parts you can get, the water filter would likely reduce my problems that I had been getting by 50 percent. I told the tech to find me a filter and set it up now. He had to call in to dispatch and ensure he was able to do it. He installed it and handed me yet another bill. Once the day was done and the bills were paid, I popped open my laptop and searched the Scotsman SSM1 water filter on the net to find what amount of cash I got hosed out of.
